Brown Street is Running Up A Dress…

… If only it was as easy as this advertisement suggests.

It never was going to be that easy as I am drafting a pattern inspired by this  Adored Vintage 60s dress and the Andre Courreges look.

This project has highlighted how much I love pattern making and tailoring. It is the small details that make all the difference to the final form and desirability of the garment. As a pattern maker it is very empowering to be able to change the curve of the waistline so the garment skims over your hips and allow for a deep hem so the skirt hangs and flares appropriately. Details that hopefully will make this design a ‘keeper’.

All I need to do now is run up the dress…

  1. Exciting progress report! I love the quotation you linked to: “Our couture, we have not taken sufficiently into consideration life as it is today, television, air travel, the space adventure.” Brown Street Bespoke, I wonder if your dress will have space bonnet and goggles to match? (Or what today’s equivalent would be – couture that takes into account social media, cell-phones, e-readers? Little stow-pockets for electronic devices?!? Ha!) Can’t wait to see the final results – coveting it already.
